Value of trusted connections on LinkedIn

by Thomas E. Kenny

The ETP Network has free weekly teleconference calls to help professionals improve their job search and career management skills. For details please view http://www.etpnetwork.com/

On last night's call during the Q&A segment Rod Colon discussed the importance of advocates during your job search and how to utilize LinkedIn relating to introductions to potential advocates. If you missed the call, a recording is available to CEO members of the ETP Network.

Rod has often discussed the importance of having a warm trusted network. This morning I was really pleased to find that the experts at LinkedIn agree with this ETP principal.

There is a very good NetworkWorld article titled "LinkedIn tips: How many connections is too many?" which is available at http://www.networkworld.com/news/2008/101508-linkedin-tips-how-many-connections.html

The article contains three points as to why a trusted network is important:
1 - linking with any and every body may devalue your endorsement value during introductions,
2 - who you connect to may contribute or devalue your professional credibility,
3 - when in a job search your warm trusted connections are the individuals that you can truly depend on for assistance.
